Children's Screentime Report
Introduction
Our latest report examines the time spent by children on screens across the world.
We have defined five periods of interest:

2002-2007: Pre-smartphone democratization period

2008-2013: Pre-social media period Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok (formerly Musical.ly)

2014-2019: Pre-pandemic period
-
2020-2022: Lockdown period
-
2023-2025: Current period
Key Findings
- Health: Average daily screen time among children aged 0-5 exceed pediatric recommendations (2023-2025 period).
- COVID-19: As a result of lockdowns, screen time for 0-18 years old worldwide has increased from 2 hours and 42 minutes to 4 hours and 6 min following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recommendations

establish access agreements between researchers and companies offering precise screen time measurements integrated into the os.

adopt a standard definition for children's screen time.

encourage research into problematic behaviours related to screens

create a rating system for mobile and software applications based on average usage time modeled on the pegi rating system.

run awareness campaigns on the dangers of children's overexposure.
